PMM was established in 1986
PMM was established when a group of Malaysian climbers planned to undertake challenging outdoor activities and embarked on their first climb abroad by climbing Mount Kallapatthar in Nepal. Later, PMM has taken a bigger step with a mission to the Summit of Mount Everest. On 23 May 1997, the first 2 Malaysian climbers managed to reach the summit of Mount Everest 1997. Datuk Magendren and Datuk Mohanandas with the slogan Malaysia Boleh.
Apart from that, PMM at that time also carried out various activities, including camping, climbing, trekking, exploration, high rope games, rock and sport climbing.
History Of Sport Climbing In Malaysia
The earliest Climbing Sports Wall, was introduced (brought in) by the Malaysian Climbing Association at Rumah Sarena near Bulatan Kg. Pandan Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia Mountaineering Federation (PMM) has been conducting tournaments and courses in collaboration with KBS since the early 1990s in Malaysia which later recommended KBS build Climbing Sports Walls in each State Sports Youth Department.
Participation in International Competitions
Participants were sent to represent the country as early as the 1990s in collaboration with the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) at overseas tournaments through the international climbing body UIAA (Union International Alpines Association) at the time. The administration of sport climbing is called the ICC (International Climbing Council) (ICC-UIAA). Until 2006, the ICC has established a new body, the International Federation of Sport Climbing IFSC to meet the needs of world sports towards participation in the Olympics.
